Pooja Shankar, MA

Training: Binghamton University (PhD Candidate in Clinical Psychology); American University (Master of Arts in Psychology); Barnard College, Columbia University (Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and Behavior)

 Pooja Shankar (she/her/hers) is a PhD Candidate in Clinical Psychology at Binghamton University. She has experience working with children, adolescents, and emerging adults in both individual and group settings. Primarily drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) treatment modalities, Pooja has worked with clients from diverse backgrounds to treat depression, anxiety disorders, borderline personality disorder, suicidality, and post-traumatic stress disorder, among other concerns. Pooja also has extensive experience working with parents and families to help foster continuity in treatment. She enjoys working collaboratively with clients to identify their strengths, develop treatment goals, and create meaningful change in their lives.

Before joining the team at MindWell, Pooja completed a placement in the Adolescent Day Treatment unit at the Greater Binghamton Health Center, where she worked with teens experiencing a wide variety of significant mental health concerns in a community hospital treatment setting. In addition to her work at MindWell, Pooja currently sees individual clients through the Binghamton University Psychological Clinic and is engaged in clinical research. Her main research focus involves studying the etiology and development of depression in youth. When she is not working, Pooja enjoys cooking and baking, playing pickleball with friends, going for long walks, and watching the New York Rangers.
