Adriana Méndez-Fernández
Adriana Méndez-Fernández is a doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology program at Binghamton University.
As a researcher in the Marriage and Family Studies Lab, she studies the mental health effects of aggression within the household, with particular attention to individuals who have experienced or perpetrated intimate partner violence (IPV), especially within marginalized and underserved communities. This work sharpens her clinical practice, deepening her understanding of how relational violence shapes mental health symptoms and informing how she assesses and treats clients navigating similar experiences.
Ms. Méndez-Fernández's clinical work with adults experiencing mood disorders, substance use concerns, emotion dysregulation, and interpersonal distress complements her research interest in the household dynamics that can give rise to aggression. She draws on evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), tailoring treatment to each client's individual needs, experiences, and goals.
A bilingual English- and Spanish-speaking clinician, Ms. Méndez-Fernández welcomes clients who may feel more comfortable expressing themselves in Spanish. She works to create a culturally responsive, collaborative environment where clients feel free to be themselves and empowered to address the concerns that bring them to therapy.
